The Gateway Gloucester Works provides gateway to new job Residents in Gloucester are benefiting from personalised and one-to-one support and training advice from the Gateway project as part of the City Employment and Skills Plan called Gloucester Works. The Gateway is an integral element of the Gloucester Works network and provides seamless support to workless or employed clients seeking sustainable employment or more productive careers. The experienced Gateway team brings in-depth knowledge of local businesses requirements, directing people to training opportunities that are flexible and responsive to both their own personal needs and those of their employer. Daniel Pinnell from Prospect Training Services, which runs the Gateway project explains the simple three step approach, "First we have an informal meeting to assess someone's individual needs for training, their career planning and aspirations, including any 'Skills for Life' needs and childcare requirements. "Then, an individual 'Client Passport' will be created detailing their agreed training and support requirements – like an action plan. "This is followed by support from the Gloucester Works team throughout the training journey and hopefully into employment, using information we have about the latest vacancies within the city." Following a period of unemployment, David Bromberg (24) and Jessica Hancox (27) who live together in Addeydale are both receiving one to one support and training to help them get back into employment. David and Jessica were referred her to the Gateway project for an individual assessment of their aspirations and opportunities following an interview with a Gloucester Works representative. David is a former chef keen for a career change and both he and Jessica are keen to find employment to pay for new accommodation and support their baby, which is expected in July. Both will have individual assessments and will be offered training that suits their needs from a range of suitable providers including Train to Gain. David says, "Our initial meeting with the Gateway staff was very positive. Both Jessica and I are keen to change our current situation and we are both aware of the need to provide financial support for the baby. "I was looking for a career change and the options the Gateway has presented me with mean I can actually achieve this." Kim Jolliffe, Team Leader at Gloucester Works says: "David and Jessica's story is another real situation where the Gateway project is providing local people with the support and training opportunities they need to improve their job prospects. "The Gateway team is working hard to make sure that local people and local businesses are receiving the training guidance they need to find sustainable employment or run more efficiently in testing times." Since August, a total of 240 unemployed people and 158 businesses from Gloucester have attended interviews or received support from the Gateway project. |
