Gwen Douglas

Gwen (54) a local mother has previous experience of caring for adults with physical disabilities and learning difficulties.

She left her position as a carer working with adults with learning difficulties just as the organisation she was working for closed its Gloucester premises and moved the operation to Cheltenham. She would like to return to work in a similar capacity, using her previous experience to work with children that are less able bodied or have learning difficulties.

Gwen has already received training funded by Gloucester Works that has included confidence building, CV writing, and interview techniques and is about to undertake three childcare courses in conjunction with PATA, specifically aimed at getting her the skills she needs to enter her chosen profession.

Says Gwen; "My work with adults with learning difficulties was very rewarding and as I have previously volunteered as a carer for disabled children I now want to put this all together. I wanted to use the experience I have already got to work in an area that will challenge me constantly, and take my experience to the next level but be very fulfilling.

"Gloucester Works has been able to open doors that on my own I simply couldn't have done."
