Sector Specific Training

Gloucester Works has commissioned approved training providers and works with the Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) to identify the specific skills needs of each business sector. Our team of experts will have the knowledge to offer sector specific skills advice.

By working with partners in retail, hospitality and leisure, care, construction, warehousing and storage, Gloucester Works is already offering bespoke employability training programmes, that deliver the essential skills necessary to work in these sectors.

The courses have been designed to provide those who may be out of work or who work in a different sector with the vital skills they need to successfully apply for and secure a job in these growth sectors in Gloucester.


Customer Service / Retail employment training
This course has been developed to reflect the customer service skills employers require in most types of jobs including sales and retails, call centres, hotels, restaurants, bards, cafés and customer facing front line roles in any organisation. You will work towards the nationally recognised City and Guilds Principles of Customer service qualification.

Hospitality employability training
If you want to work in bars, café's, restaurants and hotels this course has been developed to reflect the skills and attributes that the hospitality sector requires for it's employees. You will also work towards the CIEH Level 2 Award in Food Safety as part of the programme.

Construction skills employability programmes
Introduction to Plumbing
Introduction to Plastering
For those interested in working with in the construction sector Gloucester Works is supporting two programmes that will enable you to gain taster knowledge of these skills and make a transition into further learning and work related training. In addition to learning the basic skills required for these crafts you will work towards nationally recognised Health and Safety qualifications.
Care employability training
There is a wide range of jobs available within the care sector including working with older people, children and families and people with disabilities and working for the NHS. This programme will help you to explore which area of care you would like to work in and also provide you with valuable training that the care sectors requires for it's employees.

Warehousing and Storage employability training
This training programme will give you an insight into the different types of jobs in warehousing as well as the skills you will need to gain employment. You will also work towards the CIEH Manual Handling qualification during your training.
