Gloucester Works' approved training provider Envesca scoops two national training awards
Gloucester-based training company Envesca Ltd has scooped two prestigious awards at a ceremony held at the Houses of Parliament and hosted by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH). The awards recognised excellence in workplace health and safety training.

Envesca won the award for most outstanding CIEH accredited training centre and its operations director, Simon Ellis, won the best trainer award.

Presenting the awards, CIEH President, Stephen Battersby, said:
"I am delighted to be able to present Envesca with these two awards. Envesca is truly an inspiration company that manages to combine a passion for customer service with motivational teaching and brilliant results.

"The CIEH is one of the UK's leading providers of health and safety qualifications and its fourth largest awarding body - so winning these awards involved a very competitive field - this was no mean feat. Congratulations."

Simon Ellis who received an award for best trainer and best training centre Envesca, said:
"At Envesca we have been working with businesses for over twenty years to help them achieve their workplace safety goals with effective and cost efficient training.

"Most of the businesses we work with understand the importance of quality training. They know that reducing risk and improving staff morale is essential to their bottom line and organisational performance."

Gloucester Works helps unemployed to secure jobs at Quays development
NEW data shows that more than two-thirds (67%) of job seekers that successfully secured employment in the first phase of the Gloucester Quays development, were either unemployed or facing redundancy before they approached Gloucester Works for support, with many coming from areas of the city that has experienced high levels of unemployment.

236 local workers have secured jobs during the first phase of the Quays development, which included the Designer Outlet Centre, the new Travelodge hotel and Sainsbury's supermarket through direct support from Gloucester Works, which has included one-to-one personal development, pre-employment training, bespoke skills development and career guidance.

As part of its recruitment support for the Quays Development, some 1,500 job seekers attended a two-day Information and Recruitment event hosted by Gloucester Works in conjunction with JobCentre Plus earlier this year to find out more about the 600 vacancies available at the time of its opening.

Following the success of the Quays' events held in April, further Information and Recruitment dates are planned to support city-wide recruitment this autumn. Established to ensure local residents feel the benefit of jobs created as a result of the city's regeneration, of which the Quays is the first significant milestone, the jobs and training support from Gloucester Works has become even more important as the recession began to impact on the county.

Commenting on these figures, Ahmed Goga, Director of Gloucester Works, said: "A key focus of the Gloucester Works team has always been to ensure that local people have access to, and the skills for, the wide range of jobs across the city that have been created as a result of major regeneration within Gloucester.

"The onset of the recession has made our task and that of our partners even more challenging as we have seen a dramatic rise in unemployment, with more people with higher skills and experience chasing fewer jobs. Despite this we are both proud and delighted by the number of jobs that were secured at the Gloucester Quays development during the first phase of the scheme as a result of Gloucester Works' interventions and support."

Lynette Brooksbank, HR Manager at the Sainsbury's Gloucester Quays store, which received recruitment support from Gloucester Works said, "We are delighted with the quality of staff we have recruited through our on-line system and with the support of Gloucester Works. This has enabled us to build a dynamic and exciting team to staff this new flagship store at Gloucester Quays."

Richard Rawlings, Centre Manager at Gloucester Quays Designer Outlet said, "Our partnership with Gloucester Works has been of great benefit to both Gloucester Quays Designer Outlet and the people of Gloucester. This partnership has enabled local people to tap in to the wealth of jobs available at the outlet centre and in the current economic climate we are pleased that Gloucester Quays has been able to significantly contribute to local job generation."
